The National Paintball Professional League the evolution of the few couples i mention on the earlier post. If you are blur and do not know what I am saying , please go to my PAINTBALL INTRO post , you will be explained in that post, just in case i go to fast and too deep on the introduction.

Ok , coming back. When they started playing in their first paintball game, it was an individuality of a 12 men game where they went into the New Hampshire woods and play. In the woods they located four colours of flag and separated in different directions of big field. Wow it sounds so cool( like what you seen in Predator 1 by Arnold the Sausage Wagon) . To win the game , the team must secure four of the flags. You must know that during last time, the game is always lasted for hours.

After a while it was given away by the capturing the flag game, where a team must reach the other side to secure the opponent's station flag. This traditions is kept until today's paintball game.

The first organized game was the National Survival Game ( NSG ). As i was mentioning a paintball game in the 80s last for hours. Imagine you were shot and you were like sitting there and wait for th game to win. The do have a 100 square feet projected screen to look man , you know is very pathetic! haha..

When the game operators is scratching their brains out to make all the paintball players happy, they came up with this fancy game called 'King Of The Hill" .The game is divided into two , attackers and defenders.A flag is put at some where the mid-field line. The winner must get the center flag and put it in the opponent's station.

The game grew big as many players were intrigue by this shorter and more adrenaline-rush paintball game.So it grew so big to give people more idea to creatively combine some old-school game together with the new game

The 'Big Game' came in, where hundreds and thousands of paintball players in it. Sounds crazy? Not only you are crazy bout paintball. Back in those days people are already started the craze. That is why it generates paintball fanatics like us hehehe...

Ok may be you don't believe me. The game goes like this. Because the game is so big, that is why is called the 'Big Game' so they plan this multiple stuff for them to collect and gain points.

They also have 'hospitals' for 'wounded' paintball players to stay there at least 10-15 mins while the game is going on. This is some sort like penalty, they don't kick you out so fast , you know why ? Business:) If people are 'dying ' who is going spend money on paintball? hehe..right?

The first NSG champion was The Unknown Rebels from London , Otario, Canada were the champions. Not only that, they each went home with 5500 bucks!

A guy named Bob Gurnsey saw the potential of what went on that day in the woods in 1981. He approached Nelson, the company that made the paintballs for forestry and cut a deal to buy directly from them. He is the one who marketed paintball under the name "National Survival Game. (NSG)"

Pursuit Marketing Inc, (PMI) also entered the paintball marketplace and have grown into one of the largest distributors in the world since.

In 87, Survival New York Hosted Air Pistol Open. Navarone Southern California was the winner and they keep on wining for few years.

Paintball fever is contagious haha.. I bet you know it too. So it leads to Europe. The Mayhem Masters which hosted by the English paintballers and participated by the Americans.

5 -man center flag paintball tournament with 50 grand was not uncommon in that time. In 1990, the first world cup hosted at New York Survival .The Piranhas from Buffalo took away 80 grand and 40 grand was given to Ironmen California .

Just as Novarone was the team to beat in the west , three teams dominated tournament paintball in the Northwest and Midwest..the Piranhas . Master Blaster and the mighty Lord of Discipline( known back then),a.k.a Aftershock . They are the only team who almost sweep away all every grand price in every major events .

Since then a lot of changes in the paintball world.Caleb Strong's Piranhas instituted a new and special policy of penalizing an offending player's team, the ' one-for-one rule'. A player caught playing on or wiping and was eliminated from the game , as was his paintball teammate.

Also changes of 15-man to 10-man paintball team in the series of 2 flag format .In 1993 all 2 flag format has been finalize and put into practice in every match .

Mean while in 1990, Debra Dion-Krischke, who handled and managed many of the NSG tournament , began one of her own in Pittsburgh area catering strictly to the novice and amateur paintball players. Her emphasis is on the paintball newbies and intro to paintball tournament in a festive atmosphere .

It was the International Amateur Open !It was sponsored by California Magnum Paintballs.

A lot of top paintball team were talking on the news rules and structure and management of paintball tournament and stuff so they held a meeting . A meeting was participated by 18 top teams in Chicago.

A man by the name of Jim Lively was unsatisfied with the decisions in the meeting . So Jim decided to start a league of his own. Jim Lively decided to take and chance and start the Nation Professional Paintball League ( NPPL).

This is the time when NPPL is born. The only existing tournament that was placed on the NPPL schedule was the World Cup , other than that events and venue were new.

Jim was working very hard to keep NPPL well organised and well planned. At first NPPL Tournament was participated by 13 groups. Initially because of its unauthoritative system and management, the paintball player are the ones who formulate the league rules. They also make business decisions, sanctions and presides all the aspect of NPPL.

In 2000, Chuck Hendsch became the president of NPPL. NPPL formed a Steering committe to act as an advisory board to NPPL in regards to the rule of play ,equipment, format and any disciplinary actions if needed.

The commitee is made of elected and appointed representatives including pro caption ,divisional representatives, manufacturers , league officials..etc. Steve Davidson was the secretary then.

With the promoters working together and supportively , they led to a marked increase in quality of tournament sites, for example the 200 thousand air filled system that streamlined air fills which is very very expensive and is impossible to buy in all alone.

In years to come . NPPL fix all the paintball tournament into 5 and 10 man competition and it has been there for many many years until now. Xball tournament was created one for professionals and one for college teams.

Xball is another playind method in the paintball world if you guys don't know. It is the brain child of Richmond Italia of Procaps. It is the amalagation of two sports structure, the 5-man center flag game and scoring and penalty form of hockey .

A squad of 5 players from each team is sent out to play a center flag game. Hanging the flag in the opponents station or the opposition conceding the inevitability of such a hang to save time results in a point scored.

Xball is separated into many sets of time. One game last at minimum of 10 mins to 15 mins . If a paintball player is penalized. He must serve a predetermined time in a penalty box , 2 or 5 mins depeding on the severity of the infractions, and that team plays short for that period of time while that person is caged in like a lion in the zoo waiting to be unleashed. hahaha..But the team might loose because of him ..you guys know what i mean.

Because of NPPL many leagues slowly move out from the woods to arenas. In 2003 , The World Cup was hosting more than 350 teams from more than 20 countries and had found a new home at Wide World of Sports complex at Disneyworld. The NPPL continued as a dominant series of competitive paintball.

As you know in NPPL , the players ' owned' the company. So there was this conflict between players and the promoters. In late 2001 , all the promoters of individual events got together and created another company in which hosted a lot of Xball competition and its called Paintball Sports Promotions ( PSP).

I hope you guys didn't fall asleep:) Well, I guess that is all for now! C ya!

P.s: Do leave some comments whether you'd like it or not will ya?:) Happy paintball 'ing

NPPL, Inc. that runs 7-man tournaments is not the same company as the original NPPL that was owned by teams.

The only thing Jim Lively had do with the original NPPL (that was 10 man only when it started, by the way, not 5 and 10-man) was make teams unhappy so that they wanted a new league. The teams that played in his tournaments (Music City Open, etc.) got so fed-up with them that they got together and formed the original NPPL, a player owned league.

Steve Davidson was the NPPL commissionar and wrote the original NPPL rules.

The original NPPL was dissolved in the 1990s because it didn't pay its taxes, but the companies that ran NPPL tournaments kept using the name NPPL.

Later Chuck Hendsch started NPPL, Inc., and split away from PSP to start the Super 7. NPPL, Inc. was owned by Chuck Hendsch until he sold it to Pacific Paintball.
