Paintball Interview
Posted by dc kent | 6:53 PM | how to play paintball, paintball for beginners, Paintball interview | 0 comments » MY SHORT INTERVIEW WITH A LOCAL PAINTBALLER EXPERT
DARREN: What is your preference between Xball and Woodsball?
AKUMA: I prefer woodsball of coz.
DARREN: And Y is that?
AKUMA: Woodsball is more fun for me coz when I started to play paintball I started as a woodsballer.I like the feeling of a Hunter looking for its Prey...Haha
DARREN: How is Xball to you?
AKUMA: The thing between Xball and woodsball is that, Xball marker shoots more than 20 paintballs in one trigger pressed. 20 shots on one target, you will sure on target. All I am saying is Xball do not need much of accuracy but it needs more agility and speed, stamina.
DARREN: Can u tell me more of you Woodsball experience?
AKUMA: It is fun! I still remember the first time when I played my first game, after the game-master whistle. I was like do not know where to run or hide. It was so fast for me. I can’t see my target. I remembered I ended up squatting behind a barrel when all my opponents are shooting at me and I can’t raise my head coz I am too scared of being shot. All I heard was the sound-the sound which was created by the paintball hitting on the metal container. TING!! TONG!!! It makes me even scarier to lift up my head.
DARREN: After that what happened?
AKUMA: I shoot point blank... (We both laugh) I was shooting at every direction. I don’t care who and where I’m shooting. I just do not want to get shot and sent out before I can even fire my first shot. It was a cool experience.
DARREN: Did you ‘die’ fast during your first game?
AKUMA: Nope.My team mates were covering me so that I can change my hiding place.
DARREN: What did u where at you first game?
AKUMA: I wore a normal jeans and long t-shirt.
DARREN: Did it feel good after your first game?
AKUMA: Yup, it really does feel good! That’s when I got addicted by it ..haha
DARREN: Why do you say so?
AKUMA: You see after my first game, I went home, the next day I went to do research on vest, mask, goggles, Markers..Etc.
DARREN: Did you buy it?
AKUMA: Yup I bought a vest, one helmet, gloves, knee guards, and a Tippmann Marker…and some paintballs.
DARREN: Why is the knee guard for?
AKUMA: Unlike paintball, in Woodsball sometime you need to squat very long and wait for you prey.
DARREN: What about gloves?
AKUMA: It was a Dye. The reason of wearing gloves in Woodsball is when you are running fast and you needed to grab something to stop your momentum, it protects you hands from cuts and other injuries.
DARREN: So you really a fanatic huh?
AKUMA: Yeap! that is correct. I played every week without fail even though feeling tired after work.
DARREN: What do you know of Marker Modification?
AKUMA: Woodsball marker is different from Xball paintguns. One single shot in every single time you press the trigger. You can modify it by putting an e-trigger or response trigger into it.
DARREN: What is a response trigger do?
AKUMA: A response trigger makes you trigger stay long when u press it. So once it stays long you paintball will come out like non-stop.
DARREN: Have u every heard of sniper marker?
AKUMA: From what I know, what will make your paintball shoot far and accurate is to change you barrel in to a 16 inch. Not longer than that.
DARREN: Why is that?
AKUMA: This is because you paintball will burst inside before it can come out from the marker due to the pressure of the Co2 tank. Sometime the paintball why fly out of the direction you aim. Which means it will not be accurate anymore, unless you can stabilize it with an AIR REGULATOR.
DARREN: How about strategies?
AKUMA: Hmm, That’s not much as a routine strategy unlike Xball due to the different ‘nature set-up’ of the field scenario, from what I know. The basic strategy is to press forward to your opponent’s side. Once you team mate covers you, you must run forward to get a place where you won’t get spotted so easily. Then you cover for your team mates to move up. Once a team mate being shot and eliminated, you must make sure someone fill up that empty space to avoid you opponent dominate that area. The beginning of the game Is also the very important- Finding a good spot to hide. By doing this the advantage is on your side.
DARREN: Well I Think that is all for now. Thanks for you time spent with me. I have learned a lot today .I really appreciate it. I hope one day I can play on the field together with you.
AKUMA: You are most welcome brother! Yup sure why not (Laugh together)
View Full Post......Paintball is like what you are living in reality world. You have to face your challenges and to SURVIVE!
The best thing in paintball game is that is not just only a sport. You play in a team as a team. You need understand your team members. You communicate with them.
Of course you need accuracy, how to do a head shot beyond 50 feet and so on but when start the game as a team u have to understand you team mates action. What is his position? Why does he run there? How come he never covers you when all your opponents are shooting at you? Paintball train your mind to think FAST and quick to decide your next move.
One mistake is either you or your team mates are .Besides training in the field with your markers, you need to train your body too. Not only that, you have to train your mindset and how to switch it to survival mode.
Survival Mode is not just killing but to out smart your opponents or to protect your team mates. Trust me when you do that people will start talking bout what you have done on the field because you need to tell your team that you are not egoistic or self-centered or just want to show of your skill. You tell them that you can be trusted and you are an efficient team mate and good in leadership skills.
Do not be too pressured. Matter of fact, it’s just a sport...Let us all have a sporting paintball spirit!!!
Why am I telling you about building your character? That’s the most important part for me. May be it is not important to you but at least I, myself consider it is.
You ask me Why Dude? Yo, listen here, all of you are either studying in college, junior school, high school or Working adults right? Why character is important to you?
I tell you now. Ok, you see when you are in school or college you want something great happen to you, everybody wants it, Excellency, becoming one of your teachers’ favorite pet, Likes to have all the hottest chicks. You want popularity! So you want to become the Mr. Prom and Queen.
Well these are the ‘fade away stuff man! You get old, you will leave your college, school and this won’t follow you every time you go dude!
Be more realistic. What will follow you is what is inside of you! Your charisma and you CHARCTER!!!!
And to those who are working, you want to become rich, die rich , stay rich …you want promotions, salary increase.
You want to kick off your current CEO and grab his chair and sit on it, you want your business to grow from one tiny seed to hmmm Amazon!!! Jungle!! Haha...Whatever you want it to be.
All I’m trying to ask is what you’re going to do huh? Sleep with your boss or date your CEO’s daughter or any ways you can think of it.
A successful guy called Robert Kyosaki whom before he became successful in his business. He told himself that he wanted to become rich and successful business man but before all this he wanted to find a place where he can build his character!
He finally joined the Marines corp. After like centuries later (I was just joking, it doesn’t take that long), NOW he is the author of Rich dad Poor Dad and many books.
You see want I’m trying to tell you is that Paintball is a place where you can build that character in you. All I’m trying to deliver is that try to look for something permanent in your life!
Ok. That's all for now. Try to think what I am trying to deliver ya. C you around. Paintball rules! View Full Post......
How The Heck NPPL And PSP came from ?
Posted by dc kent | 5:15 AM | paintball history, paintball tournament | 2 comments »Ok , coming back. When they started playing in their first paintball game, it was an individuality of a 12 men game where they went into the New Hampshire woods and play. In the woods they located four colours of flag and separated in different directions of big field. Wow it sounds so cool( like what you seen in Predator 1 by Arnold the Sausage Wagon) . To win the game , the team must secure four of the flags. You must know that during last time, the game is always lasted for hours.
After a while it was given away by the capturing the flag game, where a team must reach the other side to secure the opponent's station flag. This traditions is kept until today's paintball game.
The first organized game was the National Survival Game ( NSG ). As i was mentioning a paintball game in the 80s last for hours. Imagine you were shot and you were like sitting there and wait for th game to win. The do have a 100 square feet projected screen to look man , you know is very pathetic! haha..
When the game operators is scratching their brains out to make all the paintball players happy, they came up with this fancy game called 'King Of The Hill" .The game is divided into two , attackers and defenders.A flag is put at some where the mid-field line. The winner must get the center flag and put it in the opponent's station.
The game grew big as many players were intrigue by this shorter and more adrenaline-rush paintball game.So it grew so big to give people more idea to creatively combine some old-school game together with the new game
The 'Big Game' came in, where hundreds and thousands of paintball players in it. Sounds crazy? Not only you are crazy bout paintball. Back in those days people are already started the craze. That is why it generates paintball fanatics like us hehehe...
Ok may be you don't believe me. The game goes like this. Because the game is so big, that is why is called the 'Big Game' so they plan this multiple stuff for them to collect and gain points.
They also have 'hospitals' for 'wounded' paintball players to stay there at least 10-15 mins while the game is going on. This is some sort like penalty, they don't kick you out so fast , you know why ? Business:) If people are 'dying ' who is going spend money on paintball? hehe..right?
The first NSG champion was The Unknown Rebels from London , Otario, Canada were the champions. Not only that, they each went home with 5500 bucks!
A guy named Bob Gurnsey saw the potential of what went on that day in the woods in 1981. He approached Nelson, the company that made the paintballs for forestry and cut a deal to buy directly from them. He is the one who marketed paintball under the name "National Survival Game. (NSG)"
Pursuit Marketing Inc, (PMI) also entered the paintball marketplace and have grown into one of the largest distributors in the world since.
In 87, Survival New York Hosted Air Pistol Open. Navarone Southern California was the winner and they keep on wining for few years.
Paintball fever is contagious haha.. I bet you know it too. So it leads to Europe. The Mayhem Masters which hosted by the English paintballers and participated by the Americans.
5 -man center flag paintball tournament with 50 grand was not uncommon in that time. In 1990, the first world cup hosted at New York Survival .The Piranhas from Buffalo took away 80 grand and 40 grand was given to Ironmen California .
Just as Novarone was the team to beat in the west , three teams dominated tournament paintball in the Northwest and Midwest..the Piranhas . Master Blaster and the mighty Lord of Discipline( known back then),a.k.a Aftershock . They are the only team who almost sweep away all every grand price in every major events .
Since then a lot of changes in the paintball world.Caleb Strong's Piranhas instituted a new and special policy of penalizing an offending player's team, the ' one-for-one rule'. A player caught playing on or wiping and was eliminated from the game , as was his paintball teammate.
Also changes of 15-man to 10-man paintball team in the series of 2 flag format .In 1993 all 2 flag format has been finalize and put into practice in every match .
Mean while in 1990, Debra Dion-Krischke, who handled and managed many of the NSG tournament , began one of her own in Pittsburgh area catering strictly to the novice and amateur paintball players. Her emphasis is on the paintball newbies and intro to paintball tournament in a festive atmosphere .
It was the International Amateur Open !It was sponsored by California Magnum Paintballs.
A lot of top paintball team were talking on the news rules and structure and management of paintball tournament and stuff so they held a meeting . A meeting was participated by 18 top teams in Chicago.
A man by the name of Jim Lively was unsatisfied with the decisions in the meeting . So Jim decided to start a league of his own. Jim Lively decided to take and chance and start the Nation Professional Paintball League ( NPPL).
This is the time when NPPL is born. The only existing tournament that was placed on the NPPL schedule was the World Cup , other than that events and venue were new.
Jim was working very hard to keep NPPL well organised and well planned. At first NPPL Tournament was participated by 13 groups. Initially because of its unauthoritative system and management, the paintball player are the ones who formulate the league rules. They also make business decisions, sanctions and presides all the aspect of NPPL.
In 2000, Chuck Hendsch became the president of NPPL. NPPL formed a Steering committe to act as an advisory board to NPPL in regards to the rule of play ,equipment, format and any disciplinary actions if needed.
The commitee is made of elected and appointed representatives including pro caption ,divisional representatives, manufacturers , league officials..etc. Steve Davidson was the secretary then.
With the promoters working together and supportively , they led to a marked increase in quality of tournament sites, for example the 200 thousand air filled system that streamlined air fills which is very very expensive and is impossible to buy in all alone.
In years to come . NPPL fix all the paintball tournament into 5 and 10 man competition and it has been there for many many years until now. Xball tournament was created one for professionals and one for college teams.
Xball is another playind method in the paintball world if you guys don't know. It is the brain child of Richmond Italia of Procaps. It is the amalagation of two sports structure, the 5-man center flag game and scoring and penalty form of hockey .
A squad of 5 players from each team is sent out to play a center flag game. Hanging the flag in the opponents station or the opposition conceding the inevitability of such a hang to save time results in a point scored.
Xball is separated into many sets of time. One game last at minimum of 10 mins to 15 mins . If a paintball player is penalized. He must serve a predetermined time in a penalty box , 2 or 5 mins depeding on the severity of the infractions, and that team plays short for that period of time while that person is caged in like a lion in the zoo waiting to be unleashed. hahaha..But the team might loose because of him ..you guys know what i mean.
Because of NPPL many leagues slowly move out from the woods to arenas. In 2003 , The World Cup was hosting more than 350 teams from more than 20 countries and had found a new home at Wide World of Sports complex at Disneyworld. The NPPL continued as a dominant series of competitive paintball.
As you know in NPPL , the players ' owned' the company. So there was this conflict between players and the promoters. In late 2001 , all the promoters of individual events got together and created another company in which hosted a lot of Xball competition and its called Paintball Sports Promotions ( PSP).
I hope you guys didn't fall asleep:) Well, I guess that is all for now! C ya!
P.s: Do leave some comments whether you'd like it or not will ya?:) Happy paintball 'ing
